The best way to discover Bali is to either rent a car or a motorbike. You can easily do this in Kuta or Seminyak. Here are some options:

* Driving around Bali by Yourself
If you’re game for adventure, get an international driving license and tour Bali by yourself. If this is something that appeals to you, do take note of the followings:

o Prices
Prices for rentals can vary and make sure you bargain. An average Suzuki Jimmy or a 200cc motorbike (Honda Tiger) goes for US$20 a day, without insurance. All motorcyclists must wear a helmet.

o Roads
Roads in Bali can be dangerous and Indonesian people have a different way of driving there (Be careful!). In some places certain roads change from two-way to one-way during the day, and it is not announced in any way that is comprehensible to foreigners.

o Driving Licence
Please get your international driving license before arriving in Bali. Otherwise you can still buy a temporary one in Denpasar ($10, valid for one month). Drivers must always carry the international driving licence and the vehicle registration documents (don’t lose this document and bring it around with you wherever you go).

o Vehicles
The vehicles in Bali are left-hand driven and there is a maximum speed limit of 70kmph. Fuel costs Rp 4500 a litre.

o Law
The police carry out regular spot checks and you’ll be fined for any infringements.
* Cars
We would recommend that you rent a car with a driver especially if you are visiting Bali for the first time. Not only is it much cheaper than using Taxis, you don’t have to worry about getting lost amd wasting time wandering around. There are ample cars to choose from, so don’t let anything ruin your holiday.

* Motorbikes
Perhaps, this is the easiest, fastest and cheapest way to get around Bali. If you are an amateur, try motor bebek (scooter with 110 – 125 CC engine capacity). It will cost you up to Rp 50,000 per day (bargain price). If you rent per week or more, ask for a cheaper rate. Test the motorbike first, check the break and wheels, make sure they operate properly. If you enjoy surfing, they can provide a rack for your surfboard on the right side of the motorbike. Ask the rental for the STNK (motorbike’s paper). Remember; always, always, always wear your helmet for your own safety. If you meet the police along the way, this will be important as they tend to check if you are fully equipped. They might stop and check your papers (international driving license and STNK) or if not, they will give you a ticket. You might be able to slip off without trouble but a piece of advice – Don’t risk it!
* Bicycles
An alternative if you don’t intend to go far. You will find many bicycle rentals at Kuta, Legian, Ubud, and other tourist sites. The best way to enjoy the moment and the surroundings.
